What are you most excited about for the coming school year?
I am most excited about having the opportunity to work with the new third grade students and their parents this year. I love getting to know new students each year and having the opportunity to learn and grow with them.
What is an innovative idea that you’ve tried in a school?
Every day I try to incorporate fun and problem solving into my teaching because I believe learning should be challenging and enjoyable. I strive to create activities that incorporate different learning styles and provide real world experiences. Last year my students worked in groups to create a product that would efficiently pick up leaves in the fall. The students had the opportunity to solve a problem, work in groups, and create products. After creating their products, my students created a commercial for their product. The groups worked together to write scripts, act out the commercial, and video tape it. This activity allowed me to incorporate several subjects and learning styles. In addition, it provided my students with a real world interactive experience.
