Penny Valle – Principal
It is my honor and privilege to serve as your Principal at Oak Grove Elementary Fine Arts Academy. I love our students, our school and this community. Did you know I served here as a Teacher on Special Assignment in Administration in 2009? Then in January 2010, I was transferred to Woodstock Middle School as an Assistant Principal. After 2 ½ years at WMS, I was called to Etowah High School as an Assistant Principal, Freshman Academy Principal and Special Education Administrator. I have worked in all levels of K-12 schools and enjoyed every assignment.
I began teaching in 1995 after spending 10 years in the corporate world as a Computer Analyst, Supervisor and Manager at NCR Corporation. I first taught at Buffington Elementary for five years, then transferred to Holly Springs Elementary and taught there for seven years. While teaching, I returned to college again to get my Ed. Masters’ degree and my Ed. Specialist degree from the University of West Georgia. Then I went to Kennesaw State University to obtain my Educational Leadership certificate. After teaching for 12 years, I wanted a new challenge so I applied and became a Graduation Coach at Teasley Middle School, working with at-risk learners. After two successful years in this role, I decided to enter Administration and thus, was assigned to Oak Grove ES to learn that position in July 2009.
I love to learn and I love to help others learn – both students and teachers. I hope to never stop learning and never stop helping others to learn. It is my passion and my duty to others, because I know that education has provided many opportunities to me and my family. I proudly call Cherokee High School and the University of Georgia my alma maters. I graduated from UGA with a degree in Management Information Systems in 1985. Then six weeks later, I married my husband, Antonio. Together we have three sons (one deceased). Anthony is a computer analyst and so is Marc; however, they both have considered teaching as a career one day, so perhaps educating students will continue in our family. My favorite quote is, “A hundred years from now it may not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” I hope to make a positive difference in your child’s education and life.
Carrie O’Bryant – Assistant Principal
I am incredibly excited to join the Oak Grove team! I joined the Cherokee County School District in 1999. Since then, I have taught all grades and subjects in grades Kindergarten through five. This experience has proven incredibly valuable to me as I have the unique opportunity to understand each phase of elementary education. To ensure I continue to understand best practices and factors impacting elementary education, I have completed several graduate degrees and certifications over the past several years. These include a master’s and specialists’ degree as well as my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Certification, Teacher Support Specialist (TSS) Certification, Gifted Endorsement, ESOL Certification, MIE Certification, and Leadership Certification.
On a personal note, my husband, Scott, and I married in 1994. He is also a teacher. He currently teaches at Cherokee High School in the Vocational Education Department. We have three wonderful children! Our twins, Jake and Josh, were born in 1997. Our daughter, Emma, completed our family perfectly in 2004!
