Dr. Seuss’s birthday is next week.  We have a full week of Seuss-tastic fun planned!

  • Each day next week will be themed with fun for everyone.

Monday – “Fox in Socks”…  Wear wacky socks

Tuesday – “Green Eggs & Ham” …  Wear green

Wednesday – “Wacky Wednesday” …  Wear, clothes backwards, inside-out, etc.

Thursday – “IF I RAN THE ZOO” …  Wear animal print

Friday – “CAT AND THE HAT” …  Favorite Dr. Seuss attire


Paws and Claws Pet Supply Drive

Our spring “Paws and Claws” pet supply drive will be held Mar. 2-9!  We will be collecting supplies for the Cherokee County Humane Society.  Students at different grade levels can bring in donations as shown below:

Kgn.—cat or dog toys

1st grade—garbage bags

2nd grade—dog or cat treats

3rd grade—canned cat or dog food

4th grade—dish liquid or hand sanitizer

5th grade—cat litter

All grades can bring in old towels and rags.

Bring in donations from Fri., Mar. 2-Mar. 9.

Thanks for your help in providing for the pets of Cherokee County!

Jump Rope for Hearts

Jump Rope for Heart is February 14-16 during regular PE classes. We are already collecting $$ for the American Heart Association. Forms have gone home, so please check out the information on the front of the envelope to find out how to register and even download the APP.

Veteran’s Day Program

Hickory Flat invites you to our Veteran’s Day Celebration to honor our community’s Veterans!  We are asking the school community to please invite any family and friends who are Veterans and would like to join us for this special celebration.

When:  Friday, November 10th at 12:30-Veteran’s are asked to park by the New Gym (entrance on Hickory Road) and please arrive at 12:00 to be seated.

Where:  Hickory Flat Elementary School New Gym

Following the assembly, a reception will be held in the cafeteria for all Veterans and their student.

Annual Thunderbird Fall Food Drive

Beta Club and student council will be coordinating our annual fall food donation drive.  Students will bring in items from Friday, Nov. 3  – Thursday, Nov. 16.  Our donations will go to MUST Ministries.  The food will be provided to needy families in our area with holiday meals!!  Last year, MUST Ministries provided holiday dinners to nearly 1,000 local families.  Let’s bring even more this year to help others in our community!!

 These are the donation requests for each grade level:


 Kgn. Students—bring box of instant mashed potatoes or bag of marshmallows
1st Grade Students—bring box of stuffing or can of soup or cans/envelopes of turkey gravy
2nd Grade Students—bring canned corn or canned green beans or canister of instant tea (unsweetened)
3rd Grade Students—bring canned cranberry sauce or canned fruit or small bag of sugar
4th Grade Students—bring canned chicken broth or box of macaroni and cheese or cranberry sauce
5th Grade Students—bring cake mix or cake frosting or canned yams
