After School Program Info
The After School Program is available at most elementary schools from the end of the school day until 6 p.m. The cost is $8 per day, per child.

Fine Arts Academies
The CCSD Fine Arts Academies are providing kindergarten through fifth grade a climate of high expectation, discipline and academic rigor. Based on the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE), the comprehensive Fine Arts program provides opportunities for students to develop a sense of craftsmanship, quality task performance and goal-setting skills needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond. Lottery-funded Georgia Pre-K classes are offered at: Ball Ground ES STEM Academy, Canton ES STEM Academy, Hasty ES Fine Arts Academy, Johnston ES Preschool Center, Oak Grove ES Fine Arts Academy, R.M. Moore ES and Ralph Bunche Center. Additional information concerning the Georgia Pre-K program can be found on the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) website.
Student eligibility guidelines for gifted education services in Georgia may be found in State Board of Education (SBOE) Rule 160-4-2-.38 EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR GIFTED STUDENTS [Code IDDD(2)]. The Cherokee County School District’s Gifted Education Program follows these guidelines in its eligibility process. You can register at your child’s school for the Parent Information Website, Aspen, to access the online grade and attendance monitoring program. You can request to be alerted via email if your child receives a failing grade, is absent or tardy, or misses an assignment. Students in grades K-2 report attendance only in this program.

Inclement Weather Information
All major metro and local media outlets will be notified as soon as possible when the decision is made to close schools. The notice will also be placed on the home page of our website immediately and will be posted on CCSD’s Facebook page and Twitter feed. When school is closed for the day, all school activities for that day/evening are also cancelled.

Kindergarten Registration Age
Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1 in order to be eligible for kindergarten, and 6 years old on or before September 1 to be eligible for first grade, according to Georgia law. If your child does not meet these criteria, you might check with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) for information on 4-year-old programs.

If your child meets the age requirement, registration for kindergarten is held in March. For information regarding documents needed for registration, please see the Student Enrollment section on the Forms page.

Lunch costs: Lunch is $2.35 for elementary students, and $2.60 for middle and high school students. Visitors pay $4 for lunch at any school, and $5 for special events. Breakfast is $1.50 for all students; visitors may eat breakfast for $1.75. Free and reduced price meals are available for eligible students. Lunch Account Balance: You can access your child’s lunch account online through the My Payments Plus website. You can view the balance and add funds online.

Registering for School
Registration for kindergarten and first grade* (new students only) is held in March. For new residents over the summer, schools open in late July. For information regarding documents needed for registration, please see the Student Enrollment section on the Forms page.
*If your child attended kindergarten at any CCSD elementary school last year, then he is automatically registered for the first grade at that school.
Renting a CCSD Facility
Community facility use requests must start with the school principal/worksite location supervisor. Depending on the nature of the request, there are rental fees, utility fees and custodial fees assessed for usage by an outside group. Please see the Facility Use Guidelines and Forms page for more information.
School Board Meetings
The Cherokee County Board of Education meets regularly at 7 p.m. on the first and/or third Thursday of the month in the Historic Canton High School, School Board Auditorium. For more information, please visit the Board of Education page.

You can apply for Student Reassignment by contacting the Office of School Operations @ 770.479.1871. General school reassignments are considered each spring. School Board Policy JBCC addresses questions regarding enrollment at a school outside your attendance zone; that policy can be accessed in the CCSD Online Policy Manual.

School supply lists vary by grade and by school, so there is not a master list. You can view your school’s supply list by clicking on Schools (also available in the top menu), and then finding your school’s homepage.

Special Ed Evaluation
Cherokee County School District offers comprehensive Special Education services to eligible students ages three through 21 years. Children from birth to age three with disabilities will be referred to appropriate agencies for services. All referrals are considered confidential, and services are provided at no cost. The parent, legal guardian, or surrogate parent retains the right to refuse services and is provided other procedural safeguards under federal and state law.

Standards & Curriculum
From the Georgia Department of Education: “The Georgia Performance Standards provide clear expectations for instruction, assessment, and student work. The performance standard incorporates the content standard, which simply tells the teacher what a student is expected to know (i.e., what concepts he or she is expected to master).”

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. STEM education integrates concepts that are usually taught as separate subjects and instead incorporates those concepts across classes, with an emphasis on applying those concepts to real-life situations.
