Debby Amoss, Creekland Teacher of the Year
Category : General Interest
Dedicated, positive, phenomenal, upbeat. These are some of the words that her co-workers and students use to describe her. Each year she sponsors the CMS Student Council, building our future leaders by taking students for trips to area nursing homes to deliver handmade cards as well as facilitating their involvement in many school related service projects. Below are some words Debby wrote about her passion for teaching:
Most of my greatest accomplishments in education have to be the children I teach and love and the amazing and caring administration and staff at Creekland Middle School. It is a blessing to walk into school and be able to teach my students. I enjoy trying to find clever ways to incorporate excitement and creativity into my lessons. Meeting the reading and writing needs of my students are my primary goals. I like to offer students strategies that stimulate their minds and that help them solve higher level thinking skills. When a teacher arms students with the tools they need to feel successful and confident, teachers have a greater chance of creating lifelong readers and learners. My hope for all my students I teach is to instill a positive learning journey in which they grow academically as well as socially and for them to also know how much I care.
