Ms. Haygood Named Boston’s Teacher of the Year

Mr. McGruder announced third grade teacher Ms. Jennifer Haygood as Boston’s 2017-18 Teacher of the Year at the staff Back to School meeting. Teachers were delighted to congratulate Ms. Haygood on this well-deserved honor. Votes for the Teacher of the Year came from Ms. Haygood’s peers.
Ms. Haygood started her teaching career at Boston Elementary School 11 years ago. She earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Reinhardt University, a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University, and her M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College. She is also endorsed in gifted education and math. She loves taking classes and learning new things that will benefit her students.
Ms. Haygood believes that one of the most important jobs of a teacher is to make her classroom a safe place to learn, where students know it is ok to make mistakes. One of her biggest priorities is to build confidence in her students. When students feel confident, but know that they are safe to make mistakes, they will rise to the challenges that she gives them in the classroom.
Ms. Haygood has one son, Andrew, who is starting his junior year at Vanderbilt University this fall. She also has two yorkies, Zoie and Mindie.
Ms. Haygood is currently looping to third grade with her students from the 2016-17 school year.
