Etowah High School is welcoming a new girls basketball head coach for next season, and he’s a familiar face on Eagle Mountain!

Rob Graner

Longtime Etowah HS teacher and Coach Rob Graner was approved by the Cherokee County School Board on Thursday night to jump into the head coach role.

Coach Graner teaches PE and has coached several sports at Etowah HS, including the boys basketball team from 1991-1998 as the varsity assistant head coach and then serving as head coach through 2003.  Under his leadership, the Eagles achieved their first playoff appearances in school history in the 2000 and 2001 seasons, including their first playoff victory.  These accomplishments earned Coach Graner the distinguished Cherokee County Coach of the Year award for 2000 and 2001.

From 2003-2015, Coach Graner served as varsity assistant head coach for the Lady Eagles basketball team… helping lead the team to its AAAA State Championship in 2005.  Along with the honor of winning the State title, Coach Graner was named the AAAA State and Region Assistant Coach of the Year 2005 as well as the Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2011.

“Coach Graner knows our school, our basketball program and our community, and he cares about them all deeply,” Principal Robert Horn said.  “He’s an outstanding teacher, coach and leader, and we’re excited about how he will build upon the program’s strong foundation to reach higher successes in the future.”
